How You Know We Live In A True Melting Pot
A long lunch outside of the cramped office was in order for today. Everything was easy about the trip; no traffic, found quick and easy parking (with plenty of time left on the meter), and even got a table outside to enjoy the sunny warm weather! Out of convenience and mood we chose a little Mexican place with a small front patio but a few open tables. There is no mistake with us 3, white twenty somethings, our language of preference is English. However adjacent to us was a middle-eastern/Arabic man dining alone. There was some confusion when our food was brought to us because there were four plates instead of three. The waiter unsure of whom the fourth plate belonged to asked the man adjacent to us, "Usted pidia a el numero 3 especial. ¿El burritto poner crema amargo especial?" Which I understood but apparently the middle-eastern man did not, because a look of confusion followed by anger came to his face. I'm sure that mistake has been made before, in the DC Metro area it is to be expected. Honestly this is one of the reasons I love this area, a true melting pot.
