The Cookie Has NO Idea!

DAILY QUOTES

The sad truth is that excellence makes people nervous.
~Shana Alexander

...Even dogs assail'd their master, all save one,
And he was faithful to a corse, and kept
The birds and beast and famish'd men at bay...
~ Lord Byron from Darkness

My Fortune Tonite:
You're desperately trying to remember a dream; perhaps you should go back to bed.
THE COOKIE HAS NOOOOO IDEA!

Ahhh Reality TV with out you my life would be so incomplete. I love it all from the gameshow style shows, the informative serious documentary, the forced awkward situations of a Real World, and even the look at my ridiculous slice of life types. Lately I have got caught up in a few that I really like, but sometimes because the characters are so bad or the situations are appalling.

The Flavor of Love:
What's not to love about Flav? He's making history with his new show and third spin-off reality show. The dating game format has been done before but never quite so crack-headed as this. No roses or rings are handed out only oversized Flavor Flav style trademark clocks on ropes. The only thing that really goes through my mind when watching Flav play the romantic is; Wow! I can't believe that girl is making out with him, he just looks like his breath smells like ass.

You know what time it is! Boyeeee!

There and Back:
Do you wanna crawl around inside the head of a former boy-band member? I assure you its a cold, dark, empty, lonely place. There are some thoughts like, "Wow, my girl friend just made me a chore list!" and "I know it's the beginning part of the week but I'm not sure if its Tuesday or Wednesday." This show spotlights Ashley parker Angel's attempt at returning to fame on his own without his former boy band mates form O-Town. I'll give him props on maybe a song or two. They will be catchy and he will sell lots of records. But isn't it fun to watch someone who probably never even had to wipe himself try to raise a child, and operate in the real world? (Especially the cruel cruel world of the music biz.) Blonde jokes are still viable as long as he walks the Earth.

"Hey Tiff, where do I put the garbage once it's in a bag?"
"Hey Tiff, why am I lost in a desert with only this awful sweater and my guitar?"

Flip This House:
This is one show I actually enjoy watching! It may be because it appeals to my Do-It-Yourself, This Old House, construction lineage/male macho side. But it also might have to do with Ginger's terrific rack! This is the most real of these three shows. They take a cheap run-down house fix it up in a week and sell it at a huge profit! All the while running into the problems any home owner would run into during renovation. Did I mention Ginger's fantastic cannons?

(No picture available, just imagine boobs and a construction site)

Paramilitary Baked Goods

DAILY QUOTES

Dear Lord: The gods have been good to me. For the first time in my life, everything is absolutely perfect just the way it is. So here's the deal: You freeze everything the way it is, and I won't ask for anything more. If that is OK, please give me absolutely no sign. OK, deal. In gratitude, I present you this offering of cookies and milk. If you want me to eat them for you, give me no sign. Thy will be done.

At least 4 people have reminded me that today is Friday with a big smile! I know this is typical work banter, but it's a little hard to get excited knowing I'm going to be on my feet until about 130 AM serving 120+ at tonight's catering gig. But one thing did get me excited this morning, delivery of fine baked goods from an all female para-military organization known as the GIRL SCOUTS. Oh how I love your cookies little ladies. This year I purchased 3 types; the good ole standby Thinmints (they go right into the freezer), My childhood favorite Samoas, and one I never got into before but as I have just discovered is very tasty Tag-A-Longs (mmmmm sweet peanut buttery goodness).

Thin mints are best when put in the freezer.

Tag-A-Longs = peanut Buttery Goodness

Samoas bring me back to yesteryear.

So tax season is just about here. Keep in mind I can't balance a checkbook, and the EZ form is good enough for me. But like any "holiday" season come the shameless promotions of stores and services, and those quickie, possibly fly-by-night tax services are no exception. As I was driving to a friends house I passed by one such place that had kicked the "street" promotions into high gear. And by "street" I mean; literally on the side of the road and also in the ghetto fabulous hip-hop way. Their mascot (who was doing little to draw attention) was appropriately Uncle Sam. But this was no ordinary Uncle Sam because like I said he was clearly form the streets. I have no problem with a black Uncle Sam the same way I have no problem with a black Jesus. (Actually the way things should be perhaps) But if you want a to promote your store and not give off the vibe that you might get robbed after you get your refund, don't put an obvious crackhead/Flavor Flav look alike in an Uncle Sam get up and stick him in front of your store.

Guilty Pleasures

DAILY QUOTES

I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.
-James Baldwin.

All are inclined to believe what they covet, from a lottery-ticket up to a passport to Paradise.
-Lord Byron

1. The Only Living Boy in New York - Simon and Garfunkel
2. Temperature - Sean Paul
3. Best of You - Foo Fighters
4. No Bravery - James Blunt
5. Your Body - Pretty Ricky
We all have those little guilty pleasures in our lives, mine usually come in the form of movies or music. What makes them "guilty"? As I was watching Joe Dirt last night as my put me to sleep movie I was reminded why. That movie is so bad but I laugh evrytime, DANG! I guess they're "guilty" because you know whatever it is doesn't go along with "norms." Another example is a Incomplete by the Back Street Boys, yes I do like the song, why is it "guilty"? Maybe because I'm not gay or a teenage girl and don't want to be consider either of those things, but I like what I like.
Some GP Movies of Mine:
Blade
Joe Dirt
Fifth Element
Save the Last Dance
Down to You
GP Songs:
Since U Been Gone
Love is a Battlefield

Easterns vs AutoSource

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. ~Marcel Proust

The possibility of a discount, job is your credit, low rent, automotive dealership theme song battle is on the horizon. As I drove home last night my body aching from a weekend long catering gig I heard the most amazing thing. I was scanning the hip-hop stations in hopes of hearing a specific go-go (a genre seemingly only popular in the original Chocolate City of Washington DC) song. Instead I heard something even better. A new theme song from a rival of those advertising wizards of Easterns Automotive (Where your job is your credit.) AutoSource has decided to jump in on the targeted marketing and put out a rap/hip-hop theme of there own. The song is nothing spectacular but I had to question my sanity when the announcer called potential questions "BAMAS." I thought that maybe because it was almost 2 in the morning (the only time AutoSource could afford to advertise) combined with the culmination of dinner service for 300 perhaps made me delirious, but I know what I heard. My hope is there is some kind of battle of "theme songs" on the horizon, possibly ending with an 8-mile-esque freestyle battle of advertising MCs. Hahahahaha!!!!!!!

You're an Animal

DAILY QUOTES:
If I had a single flower for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden. ~Attributed to Claudia Ghandi
Mix a little foolishness with your prudence: It's good to be silly at the right moment.
~Horace
If you could have the attributes of any animal which one would it be?
My first inclination is to say a Cheetah, with that kind of speed and mad ups I'd be an NBA Allstar fo sho. After some more thought perhaps a Panda, but I'm already so cute and adorable any more might be an overload. Finally I settled on Horse, umm yeah you might have to use your imagination for that one.......

Prep-ing for a catering gig coming up this weekend, which could possibly launch a new business venture. I've always loved cooking and seem to be pretty good at it. But given the choice to cook for 300 or 2, I'd probably go for the just 2. Making something, anything for someone else to me is possibly the utmost expression of love (without getting the "horse" involved). Especially in the realm of culinary arts where sensuality and passion can be expressed in so many ways; texture, presentation, flavor, spice, etc.

Sometimes I think I seek out adversity in different areas of my life, as a challenege to myself or out of just plain stupidity. Numero Uno, Adin, Alef on the Nano-Nano list is A great James Blunt song, I have to rave about the entire album though, it's definetly a must have.

First Blog of the Rest of Your Life

WELCOME TO MY NEW BLOG!!
This is the first entry of hopefully many, in my new blog. I can only promise a few things; humor, thoughtfullness; an occasional rant; qoutes and everything straight from my heart.

Daily Quotes:

A Favorite from the Book of Bokonon:

Tiger got to hunt,
Bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"
Tiger got to sleep,
Bird got to land,
Man got to tell himself he understand.
-From Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Love is everything it's cracked up to be...It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.
-Erica Jong

My first blog, hmmmmm. Well I have had a blog before on myspace, but I felt the need to start one elsewhere. But a fresh start seemed in order with the new year (I know I'm a bit late). Saw some decent bluegrass at Tiffany Tavern in Old Town on friday, if you're a fan of this genre and live in NOVA, I reccomend checking it out it's worth a look. Otherwise the snow has got me cooped up and feeling a bit nostalgic, been catching up on some cleaning and writing. And I'm okay with that after a busy work week. I can still brag about my Steelers until they don't win the next Superbowl, which is a good feeling. I promise more in future blogs but just wanted to get this one out there.
