DAILY QUOTES
The policy of being too cautious is the greatest risk of all.
~Jawaharlal Nehru
Love is or it ain't. Thin love ain't love at all.
~Toni Morrison

So I took a day off from the blog. Not much to say except looking foward to seeing some old friends, winning all 4 of my brackets (1 win UCLA c'mon!), and boozin' it up. Everyone have a GREAT weekend!

Does Muammar lose credibility in this outfit?

Closer?

DAILY QUOTES

In the middle of a world on a fishhook :: you're the wave :: you're the wave :: you're the wave.
~From Swallowed by Bush

What other dungeon is so dark as one's own heart! What jailer so inexorable as one's self!

2. Incomplete ~Back Street Boys
3. Simple Man ~Shinedown
4. Back to Bedlam (Entire Album) ~James Blunt
5. Ghetto Musick ~Big Boi (Outkast)

I really don't wanna write a "Debbie/Donnie Downer" post, but something Clive Owen said in Closer kinda mad me question some things.

DAN: Everybody wants to be happy.
LARRY: Depressives don't. They want to be unhappy to confirm their depression. If they were happy, they couldn't be depressed anymore. They'd have to go out into the world and live, which can be depressing.

First off I am not a depressive, not normally anyways. Of course from time to time I am situationally, and it happens to be one of those times. But am I holding on to what makes me sad because I'm scared to be happy? I do want to be happy but, I definitely seek out adversity in my life for some sick and strange reason. If I was accosted by two large Mafioso Casino henchmen and they said, "We can do this one of two ways." I would chose the hard way. Not really, but going by past decisions that would be the indication. At least I can look back at those past indiscretions with humor, because I know I actually lead a pretty good life, and don't have it as bad as a lot of other people out there.
Getting that semi-out of my system I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. No happy ending, no perfect characters, and life's complexities were illustrated very well. I recommend it, but you must be a fan of dialogue and character development to really appreciate it.

YAHTZEE!!!

DAILY QUOTES

Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.
~William Jennings Bryan

And think not, you can direct the course of love; for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

2. High ~James Blunt
3. Livin' A Movie ~Kanye West
4. U Remind Me ~Usher
5. Pieces of Me (Go-Go Version) ~Rare Essence

I played Yahtzee for the first time ever last night. I didn't win a single game but I can see how addictive the game is. Why didn't anyone ever tell me before!!?? Growing up the family games were Boggle, Backgammon, Trivial Pursuit, and Gin Rummy, but never Yahtzee. Games must be the theme of the day, because tonight is a one time only online Jeopardy Test to make it on to the show, the first time they've done anything like this. Sitting at home on the couch I always seem to do well, not to toot my own horn but I think it's "cuz I'm smart." (A favorite catch phrase of mine for those that know me.) Ah yes trivial knowledge, my forte. If only my decision making skills were as good as my ability to pull useless facts out of my ass.

Found a new place for sushi that isn't as far as Tyson's Corner or into the city. Kanpai in Rosslyn is a pretty solid place. I wouldn't give it quite the rave as Konami in Tyson;s or Sake Club in the city but the Toro there was soooooooooo good. To describe a piece of raw fish as melty and creamy may sound weird but it's exactly what to look for in a good piece of fatty tuna (toro). Kanpai delivered the goods on that one, as well as the Okinawan beer that came in wine size bottles. So this weekend = Beer, Wings, Mini-Burgers, Basketball, NASCAR, grilled tuna with baby squash, Fantasy Baseball (I must be bored if I agreed to that), a backeotomy (I wish), and good friends.
Even though I have UConn wining it all my brackets look safe and I will claim the prize in at least 3 of my leagues. Basically all I need is a UCLA win. I might struggle rooting for UCLA because I think LSU has great talent and Big Baby Glenn Davis is fun to watch.

Ever Since I Can Remember Pops Has Been Poppin' His Collar

DAILY QUOTES

El verdadero amor no es el que perdona nuestros defectos, sino el que no los conoce.
~Jacinto Benavente
I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live.
~Martin Luther King Jr.

Ever since I can remember my Pops has been poppin' his collar. He grew up in an era when greasers and preps were at war and the only way to wear a collared shirt was with the collar popped. Many of my fashion advisors have told me it's a no no, but it's kinda nice to see Pops stick with his style until it came full circle, I guess you could say Pops stays fly. A long time ago Pop's met and fell in love with a girl named Candy. And although it sounds like it, no my Pops is not in love with a stripper. If you haven't seen or heard it already check out Dilated Peoples new video for Back Again. It's a pretty cool video and an even better song. Check the end of the video when some freaky albino guy tears it up on the mic. I was happy to watch LSU put a stop to Duke, but even happier to wake up to news that UCLA had defeated Gonzaga. The Duke hate is deep seeded (not as much as this guy though), while the Gonzaga loss is only to help my brackets out.

F, M, K? Updated with pictures

DAILY QUOTES

The good times of today are the sad thoughts of tomorrow.
~Bob Marley
If indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully.
~Kahlil Gibran

Feels like I step on fortune cookie!...That no cookie!
One cannot refuse to eat just because there is a chance of being choked.

Here's a little game I like to play on road trips, in the office or whenever idle time needs to be passed. This requires participation in the form of comments so don't be shy, you can even leave one anonymously. The name of the FMK; Fuck, Marry or Kill. I'm sure most everyone's heard of it but if you haven't it's simple; Someone will list 3 people and the other participant decides who of that list they F, M and K. I like to make my lists of people theme based but that's not necessary. Here's an example:
1. Jennifer Aniston
2. Angelina Jolie
3. Gywenth Paltrow
(Theme=Girls Brad Pitt has boned)
I would fuck Angelina, marry Jen and kill Gywenth. So here's some for all y'all:

For the Girls:
1. Viggo Mortensen
I like Elf Chicks.
2. Denzel Washington
King Kong ain't shit on me.
3. Matthew McConaughey
Alright, alright, alright.

For they Guys:
1. Jessica Simpson

Do they make Pro-Activ for your brain?
2. J-Lo
My booty weighs more than my husband.
3. Kiera Knightley
I like pirates when they look like Johnny Depp.

Soundtrack To My Life

DAILY QUOTES
A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal.
~Oscar Wilde
Es tan corto el amor, y tan largo el olvido.
~Pablo Neruda

Feels like I step on fortune cookie!
...That no cookie!

You never know who you touch.
&
When you speak honestly and openly others truly listen to you.

DISCLAIMER:
(Real fortunes form real Chinese delivery.)

I tend to view things in life with a movieesque quality, including the soundtrack. The soundtrack to my life would include both songs with significance, or songs I was listening to when certain events happened in my life. Of course after like 28 years I'm sure it would be a multi-volume collection. So the following is in no particular order, could be event based, could be theme based. I have to say I am a music lover first and foremost. I love all types and I'm always open to new music. If I like it, I like it, no real guilt or awkward feelings. You can tell the eclecticity if you look at my iPod listings I usually include in my blogs. Possibly why people love my mix tapes and plug my iPod in on road trips.

Slipping Down the Street

TD: Quanity over Quality!
JD: Sizzle? I like that name.
Lesson number one: Don't call anyone Sambo in the Chocolate City (Even a white Jewish guy). I think when Rambo first came out we all added the bo or ambo to our friends name to produce an instant nickname. Well that doesn't work out too well when your name is Sam. For those that don't know Sambo is racist slur derived from the book Little Black Sambo. Let's just say the bartender was less than happy when he thought someone was trying to get his attention when really they were trying to get mine. That place was beat anyways so off we went to our favorite pizza place. It's one of those secret hole in the wall places and I won't divulge the address, but they have the best pies there. Ran into some cool people (real names have been replaced) Pocahantas, Midnight and Sizzle. Damn Girls You Got It Goin' On!!! A good time was had by all, but I'm not sure if my friends realize today is St. Patty's day, or they do and that was just a warm up, Adonai help us all.

Eternal Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAILY QUOTES
There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.
~Friedrich Nietzsche
Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect.
~Steven Wright
Someone posed this question to me:
If you had to eat the same breakfast for the rest of your life what would it be?
Well, I decided to expand it to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Initially I had some trouble because regularly I don;t really eat a breakfast so when I do say on the weekends it's a big one. But here it is:
Breakfast:
Coffee w/ Cream and Sugar
Grapefruit Juice (Regular Coke lot's of Ice on hangover days)
Grits w/Margarine and Black Pepper
A short stack of Pancakes
Side of Sausage
Lunch:
Chicken Salad on Wheat w/ Lettuce and Tomato
An Apple
Water
Dinner:
A Sushi Dinner
to include:
Philly Rolls and Toro Sashimi
(among others, but always those two items)
Sake, Water, and Beer
What would you pick for any or all of those meals? Leave a comment!

~Victor Hugo
Don't worry if you're a kleptomaniac, you can always take something for it.
~Unknown
I was perusing the morning news, during my "morning wake up" time, and found this. It's a heart warming story that I can only dream would happen to me. I've been encouraged to rant about the Redskins especially now that they have signed a former true warrior Steeler, Antwaan Randle El. But I just won't do that, I grew up in the area and never like the Burgundy and Gold, some how last season I got suckered in to rooting for them, but never again.(Maybe)
I'm at a loss for something to rant or rave about today hence Lazy Man's Blog 102:

To one who waits, a moment seems a year.
(So what are you waiting for?)

Ohh Lisa Loeb, when will you ever quit. I was channel surfing and landed on my new favorite cutie pie's show. I love the girl next door, bookworm, undercover rocker chick thing she's got going on. It also helps thats she's a heeb. In th words of a great man:DAMN GIRL YOU GOT IT GOING ON! ~JD. After her show the Issac Mizrahi show came on, which out of heterosexuality I felt compelled not to watch, except when they announced LL would be on. Boy am I glad I didn't flip! The infatuation grew after seeing LL prance around in her thong. WoW!
A lazy but fun weekend was in order, as was grocery shopping. I decide to treat myself on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and picked up some spare ribs at Teeter. I figured NASCAR was on, it was BBQ weather, and I'd be home all day for the slow cooking process. YUM! I continue to amaze myself with my cooking skillz. My driver Kasey Kahne came in 4th which made me pretty happy, since he has been consistently finishing in the top 10 and top 5 so far. He's actually living up to expectation which is nice.

DAILY QUOTES
When all is said and done, the weather and love are the two elements about which one can never be sure.
~Alice Hoffman
It is with our passions, as it is with fire and water, they are good servants but bad masters.
~Aesop

No fortune cookie today (I'm sick of Chinese food JK!!!!), No iPod Songs today. The weather is fantastic and it's a Friday, what more could you ask for? The cynic in me believes that is too many good things for one day, while the optimist says, "Hey we're all gonna get laid!" (My optimist is a big Caddyshack fan.) Lookin' to make it two good drunken weekends in a row, starting with a party tonite (whereabouts are secret) and a b-day party tomorrow. Got several invitations for Shamrock-Fest, but I think I'll avoid that one, hopefully I will be nursing a hangover and or making my way back to Arlington from the aforemention "secret location," as S-Fest starts. Whatever happens my only wish for this weekend is to catch up with old friends, AND meet some new people. Been a busy day already at work and the count down to 3:30 begins now!

How You Know We Live In A True Melting Pot

A long lunch outside of the cramped office was in order for today. Everything was easy about the trip; no traffic, found quick and easy parking (with plenty of time left on the meter), and even got a table outside to enjoy the sunny warm weather! Out of convenience and mood we chose a little Mexican place with a small front patio but a few open tables. There is no mistake with us 3, white twenty somethings, our language of preference is English. However adjacent to us was a middle-eastern/Arabic man dining alone. There was some confusion when our food was brought to us because there were four plates instead of three. The waiter unsure of whom the fourth plate belonged to asked the man adjacent to us, "Usted pidia a el numero 3 especial. ¿El burritto poner crema amargo especial?" Which I understood but apparently the middle-eastern man did not, because a look of confusion followed by anger came to his face. I'm sure that mistake has been made before, in the DC Metro area it is to be expected. Honestly this is one of the reasons I love this area, a true melting pot.

Life as a John Hughes Movie

DAILY QUOTES
The chemist who can extract from his heart's elements compassion, respect, longing, patience, regret, suprise, and forgiveness and compound them into one can create that atom which is called love.

Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly.

2. Twistin' The Night Away ~Sam Cooke
3. Walking With A Ghost ~Thw White Stripes
4. I Got The Feelin' ~James Brown
5. Sex Mexican Maid ~RHCP

Sometimes I wish my life was like a movie, in particular a John Hughes movie. There always seems to be some kind of love triangle and an improbable love connection in the end. Where either the geeky or un-hip guy gets the popular girl or two friends realize they love each other. I have a bad habit of falling for the one I probably can get or one that is in an impossible situation. I can count 2 times that these crushes have led to something more significant even if it was fleeting and brief. It was inevitable that I wax poetic about love, even though I have been trying to avoid blogging about it for a while. The search or attainment of love has always been in the forefront of my life, some days I look hard, search high and low, others it just comes to me. I cannot help but think that those sappy 80's, John Hughes style movies have influenced my outlook on life. I am part of the Molly Ringwald, Patrick Dempsey, John Cusack, Brat Pack generation, when sometimes love involved whoring yourself out of a pizza shop, cross-dressing to be "Just One of the Guys," when you would do the craziest stuff just to get the girls attention, and it always worked out some way or another in the end. I'm not afraid "it" won't work out for me in the end, but sometimes can't help but thinking I deserve what or who I want. Ahh nostalgia, bring me back to jelly bracelets, neon pink everything, skinny ties and cookie cutter romance movies.

I am a firm believer of sporting events never being over until that final bell, buzzer or whistle blows. I bit my nails during all the Steelers playoff games including the Super Bowl until that final second ticked off the clock. However lately I have gone against my firm stance and it has bit me in the ass. Last weekend I was in the ski lodge watching the conclusion of the GW vs UNCC basketball game. An overtime affair and an exciting one at that. I must have been tired form the slopes or disappointed that it looked as if GW was going to lose. So with 20.6 seconds left on the clock and GW down 2 I left. BAD MOVE CHARLIE! I didn't find out GW pulled out a 1 point victory until later that night watching the 11 o'clock Sports Center. A wave of shame and stupidity washed over me but was elated in the final result. You think I would have learned my lesson, but no of course not. I went to the Wizards vs Celtics game last night, which also saw overtime action, because the Wiz loves to blow double digit leads in the 4th quarter.(A whole other blog.) When OT started the 4-5 Miller Lights began putting excess strain on my bladder, I held on (I have an amazing bladder so I'm a really good road-tripper). With 30 something second left the pain was unbearable. I stood up to watch the final couple possessions and soon realized it wasn't gonna happen. I briskly walked to the nearest restroom, knowing I would miss the finale. Which was just as well because over the echoey loudspeaker in the bathroom I heard Paul Pierce hit a buzzer beater that crushed the beloved Wizards. Piss on the Celtics! (Pun intended.) All in all the game was great fun though, I even got a mini Jarvis Hayes bobble head give away. By the way Jarvis is out for the season, but I'm not bitter.

Salvation Thy Name is Urinal.

MY FORTUNE COOKIE TOLD ME
It's not advisable to leap before you look, but that may be all you have time for.

In High Skool I excelled at languages, in fact I was in AP Slang 5 and placed out of language requirements in kollege. Needless to say I am well versed in not only current slang but the history and older less us terms as well. While having a conversation last night with a friend one of my favorite words came up; SCHTUP. I'm not sure what makes me love this word so much beaus I rarely use it, but always take delight in it's usage. Perhaps the Yiddish origins, maybe the onomatopoeia-esque qualities, maybe even the meaning itself. Whatever the reason it's tops on my favorite words list. My grandmother taught me some Yiddish when I was much younger so I'm sure I didn't learn this one from her. Yiddish is a dying language but at the same time has managed to limitedly intertwine itself in American English. Some friends favorite Yiddish words include bubkis (Pop's favorite) goy, shmeckle, shvitz and keynahore. (See the Dictionary for definitions) To me they're all good, and luckily I have a genealogical advantage when it comes to pronunciation. More Yiddish lessons to come!
Leave a comment with your favorite slang word (any language Yiddish encouraged), why, it's origin etc.

DAILY QUOTES

Love is an exploding cigar we willingly smoke.
~Lynda Barry

My Fortune Cookie Told Me
reality is an obstacle to hallucination.
Today is sort of a combo blog of ones I've done before. Combining Reality TV and guilty pleasures. I have been a fan of Dog The Bounty Hunter, since its inception. A&E is by far one of my favorite TV stations, they're line up of Reality TV is unbeatable. From Flip This House to The First 48, I love it all. But what got me hooked on A&E was the DOG. Dog is a simple man he loves blondes with huge racks, cigarettes, saying "bra" (the Hawaiian version of bro) after everything, a good steak, Christianity (personally not a fan), and kickin' ass! Before every bounty there is a prayer session where Dog asks the good lord for something personal, but he always seems to ask Jesus for help in "getting this mother f__ker." Dog can throw down with the best of them and is tracking skillz are tops, but he does have a soft side too. Inevitably as soon as his man is caught Dog turns into a softy and vows to help his fugitive kick their drug habit or help in anyway he can. Even if it means giving them a cigarette or a hot dog, Dog is a true champion!(Sarcasm) (More to be written in alter blog Dog is too much for one sitting)

I have feathers in my hair, an unbeatable mullet, Christian rock playing through my MP3 player sunglasses, but I'll still kick your ass!!

Friday night Flip Cup frenzy! Your at a cabin in the mountains surrounded by snow, a fire roars in the background, ah yes these are the high times. Maybe you're sipping some hot cocoa perhaps an apple cider, possibly even 12 Miller Lights, I say take option 3 and play and old favorite drinking game. Our choice was flip cup with a twist, because flip cup wasn't enough of a challenge for us we decided to add a lil' bit of Quarters to the tail end of the final rotation, leading to a frantic spewing of metal at glass.
Skiing was great fun even though my cursed, chronically, troublesome feet limited my runs. I hate ski boots with a passion. If I wanted to extract information from an "enemy combatant," (using the parlance of our shady President) I would strap a pair of those bad boys on their feet and continualy tighten the robotic straps. There has to be a better way, no!? I managed to get sunglasses/goggle tan anyway and had a great time with my friends.

I finally have a weekend off, and instead of relaxing and fighting the war of the perpetually messy house I am going skiing! I haven't been in about 3 years and last night when I pulled all of my gear out of the closet it had a about 3 years worth of dust on it. After trying on the boots I decided I'd better rent because 3 years of inactivity must have made the boots shrink (maybe). Also I am slightly embarrassed of my skis, they have a wood grain pattern and are a s wide as powder skis, which they never have or will touch since I'm an east coast kid. I'm hoping I don't land on my ass as much as I expect to, unless of course I try to snowboard which consists (or so I've heard) of you being on your ass as more than in an upright position. I'm a big fan of the other things hat come along with skiing though, a hot tub surrounded by snow, snow bunnies, snow bunnies in a hot tub surround by snow, drinking with my buddies, drinking with my buddies in a hot tub surrounded by snow filled with snow bunnies, etc. Here's to a great weekend ahead, getting out of town and hittin' the slopes! Lechaim!

Does anybody know anything about dream interpretation? Cuz last night I was on a date with Lisa Loeb teaching her how to skateboard (I don't even know how to) on a sound stage from a Star Wars movie. More to come in later blogs on this subject.

MY DREAM LAST NIGHT

I Didn't Wanna Do It But...(American Idol)

It's not that I'm at a loss for blog topics, (well kinda) but I do have to talk about American Idol. I usually give up on the show after the first auditions, but this year I maybe sticking with it. Hey it gives me some "water cooler" kibitz and quite frankly I've invested my time so far. Last night was the guy's turn. They all sang fairly well but I definitely flip flopped on my man Gedeon. I was originally turned off by him because of his cheesy ear to ear grin and his robotesque way of speaking. But he sang one of my favorites (A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke) and sang it extremely well.

Can someone take the fish hooks from either side of my mouth?

While not quite as impressive and certainly not the best of last night's performances Bucky stayed right in his wheel house singing Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. A somewhat predictable song choice for this young southern man, but he's a Simple Man. Bucky reminds me of someone I knew when I lived in Harrisonburg, VA hell he reminds me of several people I knew in Harrisonburg. Rednecks are a simple people who know what they like; Chickens and Dumplings, Hamburgers, Budweiser, NASCAR and Southern Rock! Quite endearing actually.
But for God's sake his name is BUCKY!!!! My American Idol will never be named Bucky.

Bucky's my name and Southern Rock's my game. My name is BUCKY!?!?!!!

Mom's Homecookin'
Tonight I am due to pay a visit to the 'rents house for a home cooked meal. My mom is a great cook, but by far my favorite part of most every meal are the sides. If I could have a meal that consisted only of side dishes it would be my dream come true. They say variety is the spice of life, and I wholeheartdly believe that, especially in the realm of culinary delights. I have been known to order Chinese takeout consisting of only appetizer; dumplings, eggrolls, soup, crab Rangoon etc. With that being said my dream meal of my mom's cooking would consist of the following:
Squash Casserole
Casseroles are a little 1950's but damn does Ma make a good Summer Squash Casserole. Complete with the fried onion thingys on top!
Yummy! Don't know who that old woman is in the pic certainly not Mom-dukes.
Potato Salad
Possibly my favorite thing ma makes. Lots o' dill, not to overpowering of any flavors and just a solid classic side dish.
Potato Salad=BBQ time!
Noodle Kugel
One of the best things we Jews offer culinarily. Cinnamon, raisins, egg noodles and home goodness! Comfort foods are the best!
Oy vey that's good kugel!
Finally to round it all out,
Gazpacho
It's my contention that my Gazpacho recipe which was derived form Mom's as exceeded her's in flavor and quality. But then again I'm a cocky a-hole when it comes to my own cooking.

Hey! My soup's cold!...What!? It's supposed to be??
